I know it will be difficult to do.  It seems these labels are on many of the food packages in our pantries. But here is the thing, it seems suitable to these corporations to lay off American workers.  It is Americans who are buying the products and from whom the profits are gained by these corporations.

If Americans don’t have good paying jobs and find their good paying jobs being dissolved by corporate greed, those Americans cannot afford the very products those corporations are selling. It is high time Americans start supporting local businesses and manufacturers that employ Americans. Worse are those companies that serve Americans, like telephone, TV, and such services, while denying jobs to Americans but hiring companies and people outside of the U.S.  Your neighbor who just got laid off from a job at a manufacturing site will understandably be ill with you for buying the product he used to make, from an outside company.

Kraft Heinz to cut 2,500 jobs in U.S. and Canada

Wed Aug 12, 2015 12:25pm EDT

Kraft Heinz Co (KHC.O) said it will eliminate 2,500 jobs in the United States and Canada, including about 700 at its headquarters in Northfield, Illinois.

Heinz, backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N) and Brazilian private equity firm 3G Capital – known as an aggressive cost-cutter – combined with Kraft in March in a $46 billion deal that created the third-largest North American food company.

Kraft Heinz currently has about 46,000 employees, including about 1,900 at the company’s headquarters, spokesman Michael Mullen in an emailed statement to Reuters on Wednesday.

The combined Kraft Heinz has said it expects to save about $1.5 billion in annual costs by the end of 2017.

After buying Heinz in 2013 with Berkshire Hathaway, 3G cut 7,000 jobs over 18 months and closed six factories.

It also implemented many smaller curbs on spending, such as limiting employee use of company printers to 200 pages per month.

Kraft Heinz shares were down 0.8 percent at $77.32 in early trading. The shares have risen about 9 percent since they started trading on July 6.

Can you find an alternative to the supposedly convenient products?  Sure.  Who says you must use powdered cheese for your macaroni, use some shredded cheddar and milk or yogurt.  It will actually save money in the long run. Marinate your meats or make your own ketchup. You will save money, time, and help a little bit with the environment.

This type of cooking is also a great way to ensure the safety of your food you feed to your children.  An added benefit is that the children can learn how to cook, with ingredients they can pronounce. They, by watching you, can learn kitchen safety. It does not take any more time than what the ‘convenience’ packages take. Pasta absorbs at the same rate.

Bottom line:  We cannot afford to have Americans paying for job losses to other countries. Buy local, grow a garden, and enjoy the process of making good food. It will save money, time, and the environment. Who knows those companies may come back to America. It could happen. They sure will miss us though.
