Today my guest on “The Covert Report” is Douglas Lucas, talking about censorship by prosecution, the story of Barrett Brown who has spent 20 months in federal prison in Texas for rattling the comforts of a private intelligence corporation called Strategic Forecasting, aka “Stratfor.” Lucas walks us through the tyrannical prosecution, featuring a gag order “to protect Barrett Brown from the exposure of his case, over the objections of his own attorney & himself as defendant.
Not a hacker himself, Barrett Brown is a journalist published in Vanity Fair and the Guardian, who got arrested after exposing the inner workings of private intelligence corporations, as disclosed in the Wikileak files. In his new e-book, “Keep Rootin’ For Putin: Establishment Pundits and the Twilight of American Competence,” Brown has shown his satirical wit by proselytizing about the complacency of the corporate media.
Brave words from a prison cell! Lucas, an independent journalist, tells how Barrett just accepted a plea deal with a possible 8 1/2 year sentence, for protesting the FBI’s abuse of his mother, who was pressured to plead guilty to moving Barrett’s lap top computers from the kitchen counter to a kitchen drawer, during an FBI search warrant. Barrett also pleaded guilty to making snide remarks about the FBI’s overzealotry in several youtube videos. Most disturbing of all, Lucas talks about the Court’s gag order.
