(Many of us have vigorously protested the US role in financing & training those fanatics.) Meanwhile, we also recognize the paranoia that has crippled US law enforcement in the post 9/11 age. Behind every Arab-American door a jihadist lurks, speaking in code to plot terrorist conspiracies.

Or maybe not. Laila Lois Yaghi is our guest today on The Covert Report. She is the mother of a young American of Palestinian descent who was convicted of conspiring to commit jihad. Using the judicial weapons of the Patriot Act, the case was deliberately vague. Citing code words “beach” and “marriage,” the FBI insisted that at some time in the future, the young man would travel overseas to an unknown location to commit an undetermined act of violence against unknown targets.

In actuality, Ziyad Yaghi, 19 years old, was trying to find an Arab bride to bring home to the United States. He spoke no Arabic & attended no radical Islamic universities.

Nevertheless he was arrested after returning from a month long trip to the beach in Egypt & sentenced to 31 years in federal prison.

It’s a nightmare of the paranoia of our post-9/11 age, as US law enforcement desperately tries to invent pretexts for keeping alive the US war machine…
