The Syrian authorities handed over to Russia evidence proving that opposition forces were allegedly involved in the use of chemical weapons last month, a senior Russian diplomat said.

Although Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday night that the evidence “must be analyzed”, it sure is a good start ; UN inspectors said the day before that they had found “clear and convincing evidence” that chemical weapons, including sarin, were used in an August 21st attack that killed hundreds of people in Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus.

But the UN inspection team was not mandated to determine who actually used the chemical weapons, just if they were used. But with this new information, we may finally know for sure. The Russian diplomat added that Moscow was “disappointed” with the way the “experts” approached the report, calling it “incomplete” – which I consider an “understatement”, to say the least.

“Without the full picture of the events here [in Syria] we cannot but call the nature of conclusions drawn by UN experts… as politicized, biased and unilateral,” Ryabkov said.

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said on Tuesday that the report didn’t answer many questions and called for additional investigations regarding the issue.

We have all been on the edge of our seats – on and off, at least – wondering what’s going to happen next in this whole ordeal: Are we going to invade Syria like we did Libya? Are we even capable of doing that? Or will Iran and Russia give us so much of a hard time about it, that we just try to backpedal off the booed stage with some sense of pride still intact? Considering the events of the last two weeks, it looks as though President Obama has done just that. He seems to have skulked off the stage with his tail between his legs, all while muttering vulgar epithets against the Russian President at the G-20 meeting last week.

Fortunately, John Kerry made the fatal mistake of jokingly offering a deal to the Syrians, which was snatched and agreed to immediately by the Syrian government, who is willing to do whatever it takes to stop the civil war going on in his country and make the U.S. and their CIA-backed, Al-Qaeda “rebels” look really, really bad at the same time. This latest piece of information is bringing that plan into fruition quite nicely, and the rebels are absolutely furious with these latest arrangements. It’s beautiful.

On Saturday, after days of intense negotiations, Lavrov and Kerry announced an ambitious plan under which all chemical weapons in Syria would be opened up to international inspectors by November and destroyed by mid-2014.
