earthquakeAccording to national media sources, an earthquake struck offshore and rattled the Northern California coast on Sunday night, about 50 miles west of Eureka. After an inital report of a magnitude 6.9, it has been downgraded to a 6.8M earthquake.

It struck at a depth of only 10 miles, which explains why people as far away as San Francisco and Oregon feeling it. Buildings near the epicenter shook for about 20 seconds.

It was widely felt across the region and across the border with Oregon ; However, there have been no reports of injuries or damage. It had produced 20 aftershocks of at least M3.5 by late this morning (the largest of which was M4.6), and more are expected over the next few days.
