The Jakarta Police discovered 17 women that were allegedly confined to a shop house in Pluit, North Jakarta, following a report from one of the women who escaped the shop house on Sunday.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Monday that the women were being trained as masseuses for spa or massage parlors.

The investigators have questioned the women, the majority of which are between 19 and 20-years-old.

“Only one is 17-years-old,” Rikwanto said.

“They each have different stories. Some said they voluntarily stayed inside, while others said they felt somewhat confined,” he said.

According to Rikwanto, the women were prohibited from going outside except for family business, but they were allowed to use their cell phones. He also said the meals and rooms provided for them were “proper”.

Rikwanto said police were looking for the shop house owner, identified as I.

Police officers would also go to Serang, Banten to look for Enung Nur Hayati, the woman who reported the women and returned to her hometown.
