His name has not been made public, but you can call him “Hero”. A homeless man found over $40,000 in cash and traveler’s checks in a backpack at the South Bay Mall in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood on Saturday.
Instead of keeping the contents of the backpack after finding out what was inside, he flagged down patrolling police officers and handed it over.
Officers were stunned to find out that the backpack had $2,400 in cash, almost $40,000 in traveler’s checks, Chinese passports, and other personal papers. Meanwhile, its’ rightful owner was reporting it lost at the Best Buy store in the mall.
The tourist was taken to the police station, where he was confirmed to be the owner of the backpack. He, and those of us questioning the goodness of humanity during these dark times, are grateful to the homeless man today.
