Georgia, which is part of the New Madrid Fault Zone, has just experienced another seismic event this morning, as reported in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. This is only the latest in a series of quakes that began April 7. The epicenter of the quake was along Thurmond Lake’s Little River Arm, which straddles a prehistoric fracture known as the Modoc Fault, The Augusta Chronicle reported.

The quake is, at least for now, being blamed on “pressure changes caused by water in reservoirs” ; However, a few more culprits should at least be under consideration:

1. Fracking: The debate is over concerning whether or not “fracking” (hydraulic fracturing) for natural gas causes earthquakes. It does. It is unknown to K-TFRN at this time whether or not any fracking wells were nearby, but it’s definitely something to consider.

2. Magnetic Storms: According to scientists at NASA, the sun released the largest solar flare of 2013 (so far) on April 11th. This is quite a while ago, but considering that the Earth was in the “kill zone” of this flare, it’s possible that a magnetic storm is producing these earthquakes.
