DUNCANSVILLE, BLAIR COUNTY – A community is trying to help a family that lost everything in a Christmas Eve fire.

It was a tragic holiday for one Blair county family after an early morning fire tore through their home. They lost some of their pets to the blaze, but everyone else was able to make it out safely.

Fire fighters believe Christmas lights started the fire a little before four that morning and they had a hard time putting it out. Now their community is helping them to get back on their feet.

Christina Dyson is a family friend of the Richey’s whose house burnt down on Christmas Eve. She’s also a member of the Duncansville Fire Department. Dyson’s been organizing a lot of the benefits for the Richey’s.

She set a goal of $5,000 on the gofundme account to help the family out; she reached that in two days. She raised the goal to ten thousand when the family found their insurance wouldn’t cover replacement medications. She says the family is grateful for all of the support but they are still struggling through the crisis.

There are also some benefit concerts coming up at Thirty Something and the 4D’s in Altoona.
