(Before It’s News)

Detroit human rights defenders and other Americans begging for water were assulted Friday by a deployed military grade weapon, a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) that caused pain, suffering and some to clutch their throats.

Thousands of people converged in downtown Detroit to protest being deprived of water. They rallued against privatization of their city’s assets and disconnecting of their water for tens of thousands of low-income residents.

The United Nations has called Detroit’s water crisis a human rights violation.

African Americans comprise 83 percent of Detroit.
‘Turn On The Water!’

Human rights defenders, including Occupy Detroit members, had issued a call for help last week.

“We call on activists everywhere to come to Detroit on Friday, July 18 for a rally and march to fight the dictatorship of Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, appointed by millionaire Republican Governor Rick Snyder, and backed by Wall Street bankers and the 1%. Under a state-imposed bankruptcy, the City of Detroit workers face severe cuts to their pensions and tens of thousand people face water shut-offs.”

Thousands responded. They rallied at the city’s Hart Plaza downtown Friday, afternoon.

To disperse them, they were assulted with the military weapon. People hit with it described the same pain that Targeted Individuals say they experience – sometimes daily.

Detroiters at the rally for the right to water were assulted to cause distress as they heard the sound. The weapon’s sound emitted can be heard in the video footage at 50 minutes into this clip (the final minute of the clip).

Hit with the weapon, human rights leaders on the platform to speak Friday felt vibration throughout their body and some clutched at their chest during the deployment, that lasted about 2 minutes.

The weapon’s sound dispersed the crowd’s peaceful assembly with speakers discussing the human right to water, and hypocrisy of Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law (PA 436 of 2012), that brought forth after the public voted down the Emergency Manager Law (PA 4) during the November elections.

The speakers said Detroit is being ruled by an implanted dictator who is dismantling sections of local government.

Those assembled resist the interest of Kevyn Orr, the EM of Detroit, in moving public water to a privatized service.

They also resist privatization of all public services placed in the trust of our local government to provide for the well-being of our citizens.

Detroit citizens’ public lighting has also been turned over to a new authority that has darkened major streets such as Gratiot, Grand River, and Woodward – streets where pedestrian deaths have occurred at night over the past year.

Previous assaults with LRAD on Detroit citizens occurred on May 1, 2012 when Occupy Detroit gathered on the public sidewalk outside Grand Circus Park after park closing hours of 10pm.

Human rights defenders of Detroit, including Detroit Moratorium Now and Freedom Fridays Coalition, in their call for help, included:

“The banks who have destroyed Detroit’s neighborhoods through racist predatory subprime mortgages and saddled the city of Detroit with fraudulent subprime financing continue to loot the people of Detroit.

“Detroiters have lost their democratic rights – “elected” officials serve at the pleasure of the unelected Emergency Manager – and may be fired at any time.” (Occupy Detroit)
