The U.S. Capitol Police issued a report Friday defending their response to the September shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting — in which Aaron Alexis killed 12 people and injured three others before being killed by police — criticism arose that U.S. Capitol Police had not done enough to assist police from Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Park Service.

“Initial reports of the actions of USCP personnel were inaccurate and failed to convey the nuanced complexity of such situations including the personal and professional impact on potential first responders,” according to a report released by the Chairman of Capitol Police Board.

The full report — which contained recommendations for future events — was not released publicly, citing the “sensitive” nature of the findings.
