Another episode in our series of monthly Q and A shows broadcasted on the first Saturday of each month, featuring Shawn O’Connor of Free Enterprise Society Services (shawnoconnor.org). We discussed (1) how and why the U.S. Supreme Court considered the “Obamacare” penalty to be a tax in the National Federation of Independent Businesses v Sebelius case; (2) the ins and outs of Section 83(a) of the Internal Revenue Code; (3) consoling a listener who had fallen into despair as a result of IRS problems and how calling her congressman’s IRS liaison might be the most effective and inexpensive way to address her IRS problems; and (4) examining the “between a rock and a hard place” circumstances that occur when a person who has not previously protected their property finds themselves in an IRS “enforced collection” scenario (levy on paycheck or bank account; notice of federal tax lien, etc.).
