LAS VEGAS – Every Tuesday, Melissa Novelli and her husband Michael spend their only day off together volunteering at Nevada SPCA. They spend eight hours every Tuesday, shooting videos and walking the pooches.

“We share it on social media with hope to get some of these pups adopted,” said Melissa.

Her giving nature is the reason the women who work for her at Envogue Salon nominated her for Acts of Kindness.

“I’ve worked in this business for 30 years. I’ve never had anybody take care of the staff, salon and community (like Melissa),” said Envogue employee Katie Taylor. “I’ve always wanted to do this for her. She’s so compassionate.”

Melissa, a Chicago native, has called Las Vegas home for the past 15 years.

www.8newsnow.com_2014-12-12_01-48-27Every month, you’ll find her at her salon promoting a different cause, whether it’s raising money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, breast cancer research, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s or the fight against leukemia.

She’s also a big supporter of Special Olympics gymnastics and recently sponsored and decorated a tree at Opportunity Village.

Every spring, she and her staff also volunteer to make everyone look extra special for the Joy Prom, a full-scale prom for teenagers and adults with special needs.

“It makes you feel good and warms your heart. I think that if each person does just a little bit, this world would be a much, much better place,” Novelli said.

She credits her sister as her inspiration.

“My sister is severely handicapped, kind of a little tough spot,” she said.

8 News NOW is rewarding Melissa Novelli with this week’s Acts of Kindness award. Novelli says she plans to use some of the money to buy blankets for the Nevada SPCA shelter, because she says the dogs could really use them.
