According to Bloomberg, the novel coronavirus that has now taken the life of a person living in France, Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has been patented by a Dutch company. It gets worse, however ; The patent was applied for last year, not that recently.
Albert Osterhaus and Ron Fouchier, virologists at Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands, said patenting the virus was a “normal thing to do,” and that they have shared it freely with more than 40 labs worldwide, in a phone interview from Rotterdam yesterday.
Ron Foucier has also been involved in bird flu research for the CDC (see below), so it’s not surprising to see him involved in this. Also strange is the fact that the Saudis are crying foul altogether because it seems they’re being left out of their “cut” of the eugenics deal that is to be this particular outbreak. Especially relevant is their recent meeting about human organ transplantation and this novel coronavirus, so it could be that they are getting royally screwed (pun intended), and just want money for their elite-controlled government in exchange for the epidemic to proceed smoothly and efficiently throughout selected towns and cities.
Saudi Deputy Health Minister, Ziad Memish, told the World Health Assembly in Geneva earlier yesterday that the virus was sent from the country without proper permission, and that scientists outside the country had signed contracts with companies that make antivirals and vaccines…
Fouchier authored a study last year that showed five genetic tweaks to the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus made it airborne in ferrets, the mammals whose response to flu most closely resembles that of humans. Fouchier’s team, and another group led by Yoshihiro Kawaoka at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, called a voluntary moratorium on the work after publication of their studies was delayed over concerns their research may be used by bioterrorists.
The virus has, so far, infected 44 and killed 22 of them. The latest victim was a Frenchman who was 65 years old and had traveled to Dubai in mid-April. The CDC has released a statement on the SARS-like virus:
“CDC recommends that U.S. travelers to countries in or near the Arabian Peninsula monitor their health and see a doctor right away if they develop fever and symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath. They should tell the doctor about their recent travel,”
Apparently, all the controversy about the patent stems from an incident directly involving Foucier and Osterhaus basically scooping up the virus before anyone else had a chance and patenting it right under the Saudis noses, when all they wanted was an analysis of the sample.
The doctor who treated the first case, Ali Mohamed Zaki, sent a sample of the virus to Osterhaus and Fouchier for identification, Osterhaus said.
“He didn’t know what he had,” he said.
WHO Director-General Margaret Chan told health ministers and officials at the assembly yesterday that the virus should have been sent to a WHO lab, and that she would investigate the legal implications of the event.
“Please, I’m very strong on this,” she said. “Making deals between scientists because they want to take out IP and be the first to publish in scientific journals, we cannot allow that. No intellectual property should stand in the way of you protecting your people. Do you agree or not?”
The assembly applauded.
Although I don’t trust the WHO any more than I do these “Intellectual Patent” whores (the same kind of whores that work for Monsanto, except they work with lethal viruses), I agree with Dr. Margaret Chan that this thing stinks.
“Please, I’m very strong on this point, and I want you to excuse me,” she said. “Tell your scientists in your country, because you’re the boss. You’re the national authority. Why would your scientists send specimens out to other laboratories on a bilateral manner and allow other people to take intellectual property rights on a new disease?”
I don’t understand why the Saudis would want to jump from the frying pan directly into the fire by working with the CDC/WHO instead of anyone else, but apparently, they are.
Saudi Arabian officials announced today that they plan to send animal samples to the United States as part of the hunt for the source of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV)…
Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH), which has faced considerable criticism for an alleged lack of openness about MERS-CoV, issued a statement that testing of human samples has revealed no new cases since 2 days ago, when a case was reported in the central province of Qassim.
“MOH has pointed out that 146 suspected samples have been laboratory analyzed during that period; where results proved negative,” the statement said. (May 24th)
There is a blatant attempt by all health agencies in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Institute of Human Virology, and others to create new viruses, specifically because all the old ones are “un-patentable”. In other words, these drug and biotech firms couldn’t put a patent on, say, chickenpox unless it was a modified/mutated/gain-of-function achieved form of chickenpox. And Foucier was just waiting for something like this to drop in his lap so the company he works for can file a patent on it. After that is achieved, it becomes very difficult for the governments of those countries to have any information for their own scientists about the virus unless they pay the royalties for it. It’s a combination of robbery and eugenics, both being things these people seem to be very good at.
