corona_al khobarSince no human cases of H7N9 have been detected in over a week, the WHO has decided to focus instead on another possibly-manipulated virus: the novel coronavirus that seems to have originated somewhere near Saudi Arabia and has since spread – albeit in only individual cases – to Europe and the UK.

A man in Tunisia has now died from the novel coronavirus, also known by the acronym nCoV and as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus, or MERS. Along with Saudi Arabia and Tunisia, nCov or MERS cases have so far been reported in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar, Britain, Germany and France.

“Tests showed that his two sons were infected by the same virus and they are under medical observation,” Labassi (Tunisian Health Minister) said.

Meanwhile, the WHO is busy making China look like the “Golden Child” of Public Health for its’ “handling” of the H7N9 either they or the United States created, while at the same time chastising the Middle East under their breath for their perceived mishandling of nCov/MERS.

Speaking at the H7N9 event Wednesday, WHO’s top flu expert, Dr. Keiji Fukuda, warned that the world is not completely prepared for another large severe outbreak. It is also an “unusual global situation” to have two simultaneously emerging viruses with pandemic potential, he said — a predicament not seen since 2003, when an H5N1 bird flu outbreak came on the heels of SARS.

Fukuda also spoke highly of China’s response to the bird flu outbreak. But when a journalist asked how he felt about Saudi Arabia’s handling of the coronavirus, Fukuda’s response was subdued.

“I think similar to China, Saudi Arabia and the other infected countries have been working very hard on the novel coronavirus situation,” Fukuda said. “In certain ways, the novel coronavirus is a bit more complex than H7N9 . . . I think that the amount of investigations going on is really very intense right now.”

Other WHO experts have become concerned that workers from the middle east could infect citizens of other countries, such as the Philippines and India. Also, the KSA’s health minister talked  about the coronavirus and organ transplantation in the same sentence while mentioning a strange meeting of health officials in Saudi Arabia , which I found quite odd.

“The Kingdom has asked the Council to include coronavirus issue for discussion in the agenda of the meeting along with the issues of ethics of organ implantation and the recommendation made by the Council of Health Services in the Kingdom on ways to deal with patients with implanted  organs,” he said.

Does this mean we should be concerned about the virus being spread through the transplanted organs of infected patients?
